Iceland netted a second successive 3-0 win in European Championship qualifying after putting Latvia to the sword in Riga on Friday.

Second-half goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson, Aron Gunnarsson and Rurik Gislason saw 10-man Latvia - Artjoms Rudnevs dismissed when the game was still goalless - dispatched by the same scoreline as Turkey before them.

The result left Iceland level on points with the Czech Republic at the Group A summit and ended Latvia's run of four games without either losing or conceding a goal.

Iceland's Jon Dadi Bodvarsson headed over before Latvian pair Aleksandrs Fertovs and Valerijs Sabala also missed the target.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was twice off target from outside the box and Emil Halfredsson fared no better.

The latter did eventually test Latvia keeper Aleksandrs Kolinko with two efforts shortly before half-time, either side of a booking for Rudnevs for fouling Ari Freyr Skulason.

That was to prove significant as Rudnevs fouled Aron Gunnarsson 10 minutes into the second period and collected a second caution, leaving his side down to 10 men.

More from European Qualifiers

Halfredsson missed the target again but the breakthrough finally came in the 66th minute when Gunnarsson fed Sigurdsson and the Swansea midfielder worked an opening before curling the ball past Kolinko.

And the points were safe once Halfredsson delivered a left-wing free-kick which Gunnarsson headed home with 13 minutes remaining.

Valerijs Sabala headed over at the other end and Viktors Morozs finally forced Iceland keeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson into his first save.

But Iceland scored a third in injury time as Gislason's low drive flew in off the far post.
