Old rivals to meet in Monday's final in Malmo

Germany will play England in the final of the European Under 21 Championship after defeating Italy 1-0 in the semi-final. Captain Andreas Beck struck the only goal of the game in spectacular style in the 48th minute to book a place in Monday's showpiece event in Sweden. Germany and England met in Group B of the tournament, with the latter fielding a weakened side in a 1-1 draw. A rematch will now take place in Malmo, live on Sky Sports, with the chance to be crowned European champions. Italy, who topped Group A, began the brighter and put their opponents under severe pressure in the opening exchanges, rattling the woodwork on a number of occasions. Germany, though, survived the storm and took the lead in stunning style after the half-time interval. Full-back Beck collected the ball and drove at the Italian defence before unleashing a low, right-footed effort past Andrea Consigli. The goal rattled Italy and Germany began to assume control as the clock ticked down. However, Italy rallied late on as the chances kept coming, with Marco Andreolli sending a header just wide. But Germany held on and go into the final, with the only setback being a booking for Ashkan Dejagah which will rule him out of the final.
