Huddersfield 2-0 Ipswich: Izzy Brown inspires victory

Izzy Brown showed why he is one of the leading talents in the Sky Bet Championship as Huddersfield returned to winning ways with a 2-0 result against Ipswich.

Brown, signed on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season, scored just before half-time to pile the pressure on under-fire Blues boss Mick McCarthy.

The England Under-20 player struck a superb individual effort as Huddersfield bounced back from a defeat against play-off rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Christopher Schindler then added another in the second half to complete a miserable week for Ipswich after a shock FA Cup exit to National League side Lincoln.

Rajiv van La Parra, back in the Huddersfield team after injury, had an eye on goal right from the start. His turn and strike from an angle was saved by Dean Gerken low down, and later when he picked up the ball out on the left, shooting was all he had in mind but his effort posed no threat to the Ipswich goal.

Top scorer Elias Kachunga could have done better with two first-half headers. Right-back Tommy Smith delivered a cross which found Kachunga free at the back post. He met the header well but it was easy for Gerken to tip over. Brown then supplied another cross for Kachunga but the German striker headed over from close range, although it would not have counted as he was flagged offside.

Although Huddersfield dominated Ipswich had a couple of chances, with a Freddie Sears' flick straight into Danny Ward's arms while Sears was also on the end of a breakaway move but his shot was just over.

And Huddersfield went ahead in the 41st minute when Brown took a pass from Chris Lowe on the left and turned and ran at the Ipswich goal, curling a finish beyond Gerken and inside the post.

The lead was nothing less than the home side deserved and the three points were virtually secured in the 57th minute when Schindler made it 2-0.

Lowe's free-kick was cleared but the ball came to Van La Parra on the left. He cut inside and slipped a pass to Philip Billing who drilled a shot at goal. Gerken saved at full length but the rebound fell to centre-back Schindler, who smashed home into the top corner.

Jordan Spence was inches away from pulling a goal back for Ipswich before Van La Parra set up Kachunga but his header was off-target again.

Van La Parra then curled one wide before Schindler's fellow centre-back Michael Hefele could have put gloss on the scoreline but got his legs in a tangle and missed the ball completely, when a simple touch would have beaten Gerken for a third time.

Huddersfield boss David Wagner:

"It was a huge result for us and, in my opinion, a world-class performance from my players.

"We showed exactly what we stand for. We were aggressive, created opportunities and scored two wonderful goals.

"It is one thing to speak about bouncing back and showing a reaction, but we have done it in a very good way. The players should be very proud."

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy:

"They showed just the reaction we were looking for. There was nothing wrong with what we did. Huddersfield are a very good side."

"You need to keep doing what you believe in and hopefully nick a few results.

"We were beaten by a better side and I've told the players now is not the time to be falling out with each other. We had a togetherness but we need to add a bit of quality."
