Hibernian are four points clear at the top of the Scottish Championship after a comprehensive 3-0 win over closest rivals Dundee United at Easter Road.

Jason Cummings struck twice in the first half for Hibs and John McGinn came off the bench to add a brilliant third nine minutes from time.

The visitors produced a lacklustre display and have now lost two matches in a row to cede crucial ground in the race for promotion.

Hibs were in front after just six minutes, Cummings taking a touch and then guiding the ball into the net when a weak shot from debutant Chris Humphrey bobbled through to him after a corner was half-cleared.

Humphrey also set up the second, but in far more impressive fashion, making ground down the right before sending over a low cross which Cummings turned in at the near post.

Dundee United struggled to create chances at the other end and Ross Laidlaw in the Hibernian goal was relatively untroubled until pulling off a good late save to keep out a header from sub Tope Obadeyi.

A great night for the home supporters then got even better when key man McGinn made a major impact on his return from injury.

Just three minutes after coming off the bench, McGinn received the ball from a left-wing corner, went round a would-be tackler and then slipped a low shot into the net from a tight angle, to cap an impressive display from the hosts.
