Sevilla's top-four challenge took a hit at Getafe as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to the Primera Division strugglers.
Pedro Leon tapped home the winner in the 85th minute to condemn the visitors to back-to-back defeats and lift Getafe further clear of the drop zone.
Alvaro Vazquez's first-half penalty put the hosts in front before Grzegorz Krychowiak levelled midway through the second half.
Fourth-placed Sevilla went into the match looking to bounce back from their narrow defeat to Real Madrid last time out, but they were comfortably second best in the first half.
Vazquez saw an early shot from the left side of the area parried by Sergio Rico before getting a chance from the spot in the 29th minute.
Vazquez himself was brought down by Diogo Figueiras and stepped up to fire the resulting penalty low into the left corner.
Rico kept his side in the contest with two more saves either side of half-time, first parrying an Alexis volley from inside the area and then doing well to cling on to a drilled effort from Pablo Sarabia.
The goalkeeper's team-mates responded to his example, Ever Banega letting fly with a shot which Jonathan Lopez tipped over in the 64th minute.
And a minute later Sevilla were level as Krychowiak fired into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
The momentum was now with the away team, but they were undone again late on.
Rico parried Diego Castro's close-range effort, but Leon reacted quickest to knock home the rebound.
And this time Sevilla could not respond.
