Exeter 2-0 Port Vale: Grecians boost play-off hopes
Saturday 13 April 2019 19:17, UK
Exeter got their play-off bid back on track with a comfortable 2-0 win against a poor Port Vale at St James Park.
It was a great start for Exeter, with Ryan Bowman winning a penalty for his side inside two minutes after he was manhandled in the penalty area by Kyle Howkins.
Nicky Law took the spot-kick, sending Scott Brown the wrong way with a composed effort.
Brown had to be at his best to keep out Jake Taylor, Lee Holmes and Hiram Boateng as Exeter's dominance continued and they were denied a second goal early in the second half when Bowman was ruled offside after tapping in Boateng's saved shot.
However, Boateng did make it 2-0 in the 55th minute with a stunner. He chested a long ball over his head, turned and sent an incredible dipping volley over Brown and into the far corner from 20 yards.

Boateng poked wide after good work by Bowman and Dara O'Shea headed wide for Exeter. At the other end, Port Vale struggled to create anything that seriously threatened Christy Pym's goal.
The win means there is a four-point gap between Exeter, in seventh, and Carlisle in eighth.
