Exeter ended a run of five home games without a win as they kept alive their slim play-off hopes with a 3-2 win over AFC Wimbledon.
The Dons made a spectacular start to the game with veteran striker Adebayo Akinfenwa taking the ball down and crashing an unstoppable shot past Exeter goalkeeper James Hamon four minutes in. But Dannie Bulman was shown a straight red card for a terrible tackle on young Exeter full-back Conor Riley-Lowe with 25 minutes on the clock. Despite dominating, Exeter were finding it hard to break through, but that all changed in the second half. Tom Nichols pulled them level nine minutes after the break having being teed up by Ryan Harley and the young striker netted again from the penalty spot after Clinton Morrison was fouled. Substitute David Wheeler then made it 3-1 with 20 minutes to go, finishing after a wonderful flowing move, but Wimbledon gave themselves some hope when Adebayo Azeez's header hit the post and went in off unfortunate goalkeeper Hamon. However, it was too little, too late for the Dons with the win taking Exeter to within six points of the play-off spots.
