Crewe 2-3 Scunthorpe: Relegated Alexandra slump to defeat
Saturday 16 April 2016 21:48, UK
Crewe fans staged a protest during their side's 3-2 home defeat against Scunthorpe as the relegated Railwaymen slumped to a seventh successive loss.
Manager Steve Davis was targeted by irate fans throughout after defeat at Port Vale last time out consigned Crewe to the bottom tier after a four-year stay in League One.
The home side had actually been on course for only their second win since November when Oliver Turton gave them a 15th-minute lead with a 25-yard effort which dipped over Scunthorpe keeper Joe Anyon.
But they could not hold on until half-time as Luke Williams - who had seen an earlier effort go just wide - levelled the scores up in the 43rd minute after picking up Paddy Madden's squared pass inside the area and lashing a right-footed effort home.
Madden almost put Scunthorpe ahead after the restart when he followed up a Williams shot that Ben Garratt failed to hold, but Jon Guthrie's block kept it at 1-1.

Crewe then threatened as Callum Ainley was thwarted by Anyon, the keeper saving at the teenager's feet.
It was Scunthorpe who scored next, though, when Madden's cross to the far post was side-footed home by Hakeeb Adelakun in the 64th minute.
And it became 3-1 11 minutes later when Williams grabbed his second of the match, the forward bundling the ball home from close range after Madden's effort was blocked on the line.
Marcus Haber reduced the arrears for Crewe with a neat flick from substitute Zoumana Bakayogo's cross with 10 minutes left, but Crewe could not find an equaliser.
