Cowdenbeath 1-3 Rangers: Steven Gerrard's side reach Scottish Cup fifth round

Steven Gerrard's Rangers eased into the Scottish Cup fifth round with a 3-1 win over minnows Cowdenbeath.

Goals from Andy Halliday, Lassana Coulibaly and Kyle Lafferty put Rangers in control before half-time at Central Park.

And Rangers took the lead after just 12 minutes when Jermain Defoe teed up Halliday to drill home from 20 yards out, before Coulibaly fired Rangers' second on 26 minutes when Defoe's blocked shot fell kindly to him.

Lafferty then grabbed his first goal since September on the stroke of half-time, outpacing Jamie Pyper to get on to Ryan Jack's through ball before prodding past David McGurn.

The temperature dropped below zero during the interval and it showed as Rangers froze from the restart.

Kris Renton's charge through the middle forced Jon Flanagan into a clumsy trip and, while the tackle appeared to be just outside the box, referee Craig Thomson pointed to the spot and Cox beat Wes Foderingham.
