Burton overcame a spirited Morecambe side 3-2 to equal a club record of eight successive home wins on Tuesday.
The Brewers kept themselves firmly in the hunt for an automatic promotion berth despite being punished for late lapses. Jacques Maghoma grabbed his 14th goal of the season to put Burton ahead in the 17th minute when he pounced to stab home a loose ball after a Robbie Weir shot had been parried by Barry Roche. The Shrimps 'keeper came to the rescue of his side with an impressive double save, denying Michael Symes before tipping an Ian Sharps header over the crossbar. Kevin Ellison went close to an equaliser in a spell of Morecambe pressure but Burton doubled their lead in added time at the end of the first half when Billy Kee popped up with a close-range header after a Symes shot looped up off Roche. Kee doubled his tally in the 49th minute by lashing in a 12-yard volley set up by Symes. Jack Redshaw pulled a goal back for the visitors from the penalty spot 10 minutes from the end after Chris Holroyd had been dragged to the floor by Damien McCrory. The Burton full-back was then caught out again as Holroyd rifled home Morecambe's second goal in added time but it was ultimately too little, too late.
