Bristol Rovers 0-1 Walsall: Kieron Morris nets winner at Memorial Stadium
Saturday 6 October 2018 20:35, UK
Substitute Kieron Morris fired a stoppage-time winner as Walsall took the points with a 1-0 League One victory at Bristol Rovers.
Morris fired through the legs of Rovers goalkeeper Jack Bonham when given time and space for a low right-footed shot from 12 yards.
A draw would have been a fair result to a game of few clear chances, most of the saves by both goalkeepers coming from long range shots. Bonham made the best saves, doing well to keep out second-half efforts from substitute Josh Gordon and striker Andy Cook.
The most testing moment for Walsall's Liam Roberts came just before Morris' goal when he appeared to get a fingertip to a Sam Matthews free-kick, which then struck a post.
The first half was an even affair. Walsall had the ball in the net on seven minutes, but Luke Leahy's close-range header was ruled out for an infringement.
Both goalkeepers had to make routine first-half saves, but neither side could come up with the end product to match some promising moves.
