Lambert and Lines net in surprise success
Rickie Lambert's spectacular 11th goal of the season helped Bristol Rovers see off high-flying visitors Oldham 2-0.
The striker let fly from 35 yards with his right foot to open the scoring with a superb effort after 15 minutes.
Chris Lines doubled the advantage with a far-post volley after Stuart Campbell's 35th minute corner was flicked on.
The Latics' best effort came courtesy of a second-half header from Lee Hughes - which brought a fine save from Steve Phillips, some solid defending also seeing Campbell clear off the line in the 53rd minute after the Rovers keeper had fumbled a high ball.
Oldham struggled to find the killer touch to match some promising approach play, but John Sheridan's team contributed much to an entertaining contest.
Visiting keeper Mark Crossley prevented the scoreline running away by saving bravely at the feet of Lambert in the closing minutes.
