Bristol Rovers 2-1 Fleetwood: James Clarke snatches stoppage-time win
Saturday 22 December 2018 19:09, UK
James Clarke snatched a stoppage-time winner to give Graham Coughlan his first points as Bristol Rovers caretaker boss with a 2-1 Sky Bet League One victory over 10-man Fleetwood.
The defender fired home a left-foot shot from eight yards to reward incessant late pressure by the home side. The goal provoked an ugly melee in front of the dug-outs, with players and staff of both teams involved.
Fleetwood took a 28th-minute lead when the ball was played back to Ashley Hunter on the left edge of the box following a quick break and the midfielder curled a right-foot shot beyond the reach of goalkeeper Jack Bonham.
But Rovers equalised from a 36th-minute corner from the left, nodded on by Alex Rodman and netted with a stooping header from six yards by striker Gavin Reilly.
Fleetwood striker Ched Evans, already booked, was shown a straight red card in the 55th minute for an aerial challenge on Tom Lockyer.
Referee Brett Huxtable also issued nine yellow cards, six of them to Fleetwood, whose manager Joey Barton appeared to be sent to the dressing rooms after the late melee.
