Bristol Rovers 0-0 Charlton: Dillon Phillips save earns Addicks draw
Saturday 16 March 2019 18:15, UK
Charlton goalkeeper Dillon Phillips produced one of the saves of the season to help earn his promotion-chasing team a goalless League One draw at Bristol Rovers.
Jonson Clarke-Harris thought he had broken the deadlock with a well-struck 37th minute free-kick from just outside the box but, with the ball bound for the bottom corner, Phillips dived full length to make a magnificent stop with his left hand.
Both goalkeepers distinguished themselves in a match dominated by the strong wind. Rovers' Jack Bonham dived to his right to keep out a 43rd-minute drive from Igor Vetokele after the striker had been put through by Josh Cullen's pass.
Cullen had the ball in the net on the stroke of half-time, but his close-range effort was ruled out by a flag for offside. And Rovers substitute Alex Jakubiak suffered the same fate when netting from a Clarke-Harris pass near the end.
Both teams deserved credit for producing an entertaining game in wretched weather conditions.
