Bristol City 5-0 Plymouth: Freddie Hinds scores in Carabao Cup cruise

Freddie Hinds scored on his debut as Bristol City romped into the Carabao Cup second round with a 5-0 win over Plymouth at Ashton Gate on Tuesday.

Having scored three first-half goals against Barnsley in their opening Championship fixture on Saturday, City went one better and were 4-0 up by the 39th minute.

Jens Hegeler's bobbling right-footed shot from the edge of the box put them ahead inside two minutes and former loanee Nathan Baker marked his first appearance since a £2.5m move from Aston Villa by heading home Callum O'Dowda's 14th-minute corner.

Korey Smith was given time and space to net with a right-footed curler from just outside the box after 19 minutes and 18-year-old Hinds, a January signing from Luton, more than matched that effort with a quality strike from 25 yards.

City continued to dominate after the break and substitute Jamie Paterson netted with an exquisite right-footed chip in the 78th minute after full-back Zak Vyner had advanced to set up the chance.

Derek Adams had made nine changes to League One Argyle's starting line-up and, while City counterpart Lee Johnson made six himself, the gap in class was evident from the kick-off.

The non-stop running of Hinds and Bobby Reid had the visiting defence chasing shadows at times in an opening 45 minutes, which saw every home player look confident on the ball.

More than 1,800 Argyle fans boosted the attendance to 9,838. Most stayed to the bitter end, although their side barely created a worthwhile chance.
