Brighton scored two penalties to beat 10-man Leeds 2-0 on Friday and move to the top of the Sky Bet Championship.
In the opening game of '10 in 10', the Seagulls were given a helping hand on their way to victory as Kalvin Phillips was dismissed in the 23rd minute for blocking Lewis Dunk's goal-bound volley with his arm.
Glenn Murray converted the penalty and the hosts finally finished the game off with another spot-kick in the 83rd minute, this time scored by Tomer Hemed after Kyle Bartley fouled Dunk.
The win sees Brighton move two points ahead of Newcastle, who host Birmingham on Saturday.
Leeds, who remained in the game with 10 men without really threatening, stay fourth in the table but could slip down over the weekend.
The visitors were on the back foot from the start of the match and Oliver Norwood curled in a couple of free-kicks from the left that flew over everyone in the box and almost went in at the back post.
Leeds struggled to get on the ball and their job was made significantly harder after 23 minutes as Phillips was sent off for blocking Dunk's goal-bound volley with his arm.
Murray converted the penalty to put the Seagulls ahead, and he should have made it 2-0 on the half-hour mark when he headed into the side-netting from a corner.
Brighton continued to control the game but could have been pegged back late in the first half as Hadi Sacko's miscued attempt fell for Chris Wood, who couldn't divert it goalwards.
Jamie Murphy saw a low shot saved at the start of the second half, but otherwise Brighton struggled to make their extra man count.
They did have the ball in the net after 70 minutes but it was ruled out for offside as Shane Duffy turned in from close range.
Duffy then headed at Rob Green from Anthony Knockaert's free-kick, before another set piece sealed the result.
Bartley was penalised for pulling back Dunk from a free-kick and Murray's replacement Hemed converted the penalty.
Brighton had little trouble seeing out the win and will now watch to see how their rivals fare over the weekend.
