Gordon Greer's suspension has left Blackburn short of options in the centre of defence for Reading's visit to Ewood Park.

The Scot was dismissed in the midweek loss to Brighton to incur the ban, and boss Owen Coyle is already without Charlie Mulgrew (groin), Elliott Ward (ankle) and Tommie Hoban (shoulder).

Wes Brown, yet to make a Championship appearance for Rovers, or Scott Wharton, who last appeared in the league in September, may earn the nod from Coyle while utility-man Jason Lowe is another option to fill in there.

Rovers, back in the bottom three, also continue to be without Wales international Adam Henley (hamstring).

Reading manager Jaap Stam has no fresh injury or suspension concerns.

John Swift is around two weeks away from returning after damaging ankle ligaments while on international duty with England Under-21s in November.

Swift posted on social media on Wednesday that he was back in training with the squad and Stam has confirmed the midfielder is aiming to be back within a fortnight.
