Championship: Birmingham beaten 2-0 at home by Sheffield Wednesday
Tuesday 16 September 2014 23:40, UK
Stevie May and Jeremy Helan scored second-half goals as Sheffield Wednesday maintained their excellent away form with a 2-0 victory over Birmingham at St Andrews.
May, who joined the Owls from St Johnstone last month, opened the scoring before the visitors sealed three points with a second strike a minute from time through substitute Helan.
The win was Wednesday's third in four on the road this season while Birmingham continue to struggle and are now just a single point above the drop zone.
Clayton Donaldson wasted a glorious opportunity to put the hosts ahead in the opening five minutes, while Atdhe Nuhiu could count himself unlucky not to have given Wednesday the lead three minutes later.
The near-misses continued, particularly for the home side. Wes Thomas headed over from Dave Cotterill's cross, while newcomer Brek Shea shot into the side-netting.

Wednesday had another let-off when Paul Caddis let rip with a swerving 20-yard effort which crashed against the outside of the post in the 33rd minute.
After the break, the Owls also stuck woodwork: After Darren Randolph had saved Liam Palmer’s shot, the ball fell to Jacques Maghoma whose follow up clipped the bar.
The Owls were the more dangerous side in the second period with May eventually putting Wednesday ahead on 68 following a quick exchange of passes. Nuhiu laid the ball onto May who jinked his way into the box before netting with a low strike.
Helan’s clincher came on 89 when the French midfielder found the bottom left-hand corner from 12 yards after being set up by Chris Maguire.
