Belarus sealed a third-place finish in the European Under-21 Championship with a 1-0 win over Czech Republic.

Nation confirmed as fourth European representative for 2012

Belarus Under-21s have left their mark on the European Under-21 Championship by sealing third-place following a 1-0 win over Czech Republic in Aalborg. Igor Filipenko blasted home a volley two minutes from time and in doing so confirmed his nation as the fourth representative of Europe in next summer's 2012 Olympic Games in London. Belarus will join hosts Great Britain and European Under-21 finalists Switzerland and Spain next summer, but for now will revel in a successful campaign in Denmark. The Czechs enjoyed the lion's share of possession in the opening half but failed to break the deadlock, despite coming close through Marek Suchy and Adam Hlousek. However, Belarus, who suffered an extra-time semi-final defeat to Spain, upped their game in the second-half and forced Czech keeper Tomas Vaclik into numerous saves. On 75 minutes, though, the Czechs were reduced to 10 men as Lukas Vacha received a second yellow card for handball, handing their opponents the initiative. Belarus were rewarded when Oleg Veretilo delivered a fierce cross, from which Filipenko applied the finish to send Czech Republic home empty-handed.
