Premier League: A Fabian Delph own goal helps Fulham secure point at Villa
Saturday 13 April 2013 19:24, UK
Aston Villa let a lead slip once again this season as Fulham grabbed a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Villa Park on Saturday.
After the game, Villa boss Paul Lambert was quick to defend Delph after his unfortunate own goal. He said: "I thought we lost an equaliser through a bad bit of luck after Fabian tried his utmost to go and do the right thing, so you can never criticise that. "He is okay and his performances of late have been excellent and the lad has tried to head it away, which, as I said, you can never criticise anybody for trying the right thing." Meanwhile, his opposite number Martin Jol was delighted his side picked up a share of the spoils to move them onto the 40-point mark. "I'm pleased because I thought they looked the better team. We were hot and cold today," said the Dutchman. "We had good possession and then we were sloppy again, so we made them stronger."
