Kiriakos Papadopoulos scores only goal for Greeks

Greece claimed their first win in five games as they concluded their Euro 2012 preparations with a straightforward 1-0 win over Armenia in Kufstein, Austria. Fernando Santos' side controlled proceedings from the kick-off and Kiriakos Papadopoulos scored the only goal in the 24th minute with a neat header. Greece missed two penalties in the second half with Celtic striker Georgios Samaras and Panathinaikos midfielder Kostas Katsouranis both seeing their efforts saved by the impressive Armenia keeper Roman Berezovsky. The Greeks faced going into the tournament in disarray after failing to win in any of their four previous friendlies, including a disappointing 1-1 draw against Slovenia in Kufstein last Saturday. But an early strike from Papadopoulos will have restored confidence in the side as the Schalke defender rose unmarked to head home a Giorgos Karagounis free-kick. Greece begin their finals campaign against hosts Poland in the opening match next Friday.
