Paris St Germain's Ligue 1 winning streak came to an end as they drew 0-0 at Angers on Tuesday evening.

Laurent Blanc's runaway leaders were chasing a 10th straight league win but were held by third-placed Angers in a goalless stalemate at Stade Jean-Bouin.

PSG had won 13 of their previous 15 league games to open up a 13-point advantage over second-spotted Caen before kick-off.

But Angers held firm to underline their status as French football's surprise package following their promotion from Ligue 2 last season.

"If you put 10 opposition players in their own half of the field, if they are well organised and disciplined and pushed on by the home fans and are physically strong, I can tell you, it's not easy to score goals," Blanc said after the game.

"We had chances, but unfortunately we didn't score. If we had scored early, it would have been a very different match. But we also have to pay tribute to this Angers side."

PSG's top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic was rested, staying on the bench for all but the final 18 minutes, and his absence was felt as the visitors failed to score in the league for the first time since March.

Edinson Cavani and Angel di Maria came closest to breaking the deadlock when striking the woodwork in the first half, while Angers goalkeeper Ludovic Butelle saved superbly from Adrien Rabiot's late drive.

Angers' goal threat was sporadic but Romain Saiss looped a first-half header onto the crossbar and captain Cheikh Ndoye forced an excellent save from Kevin Trapp soon after the restart.

Lyon missed the chance to climb above Angers into the top three with a 0-0 draw at goal-shy Nantes.

Maxime Gonalons struck the bar with a header and Claudio Beauvue saw his close-range effort blocked but Nantes, who have now failed to score in half of their 16 league matches, were the livelier of the two sides.

Jules Iloki's second-half header was ruled out for offside before substitute Yacine Bammou almost won it in stoppage time for Les Canaris.

Nice stay fifth, one point behind Lyon and two adrift of Angers, after another goalless stalemate at draw specialists Lorient.

Claude Puel's side had the better chances at the Stade du Moustoir, but they could not break down hosts who have now drawn five of their last seven matches.

Wallyson Mallman's free-kick brought a fine save from Benjamin Lecomte in the Lorient goal, while Nice defender Paul Baysse nearly claimed his first goal of the season.
