Edinburgh Rugby have signed Tonga back-row Viliami Fihaki on a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old joins the club from Sale Sharks.

"I'm mainly a No 8 but I can play on the blindside too," he said. "I think my physicality will help the club, especially carrying the ball into contact.

"The move will be a great adventure for me and my family and I'm looking forward to getting involved."

Fihaki made his Tonga debut in 2013 and has eight Test caps and two tries for his country, and Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons said: "We are delighted that Vili has signed for the club.

"He is a big, powerful ball carrier with international experience. I have no doubt that he will add huge value to the team and look forward to working with him."

Fihaki moved to Sale in 2013 after a four-year spell with New Zealand provincial side North Harbour.

He joins his compatriot Will Helu and former Sharks team-mate Nathan Fowles in an Edinburgh squad looking to improve on their ninth-place finish in the Guinness PRO 12 last season.
