Wasps flanker James Haskell can begin his road to recovery after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his big toe.
The 31-year-old England star was named man of the series against Australia this summer, despite only playing in two of the games because of the injury he suffered in the second Test in Melbourne.
Haskell might not play for Wasps until early 2017, although - should his rehabilitation go well - he could be back in time for the start of England's Six Nations title defence.
But he is almost certain to miss the Autumn internationals against Argentina, Australia, South Africa and Fiji.
In a video posted on Instagram, Haskell said: "Everybody said the operation went well, so first day on the journey on to rehab.
"I may have had some Special K, going against my No 1 rule about eating cereals but in hospital, you've just got to roll with it.
"Thanks for all the amazing messages and I'll keep you in touch with loads of videos about my rehab, what I'm doing, and everything else but for the moment, it's just resting and making sure I don't put any weight on my foot."
