Joe Launchbury has told Sky Sports News HQ he is not considering the possibility of becoming England captain.

The Wasps lock is the man World Cup winner Will Greenwood wants in the job if new coach Eddie Jones decides to replace Chris Robshaw ahead of the Six Nations.

There are several other candidates, and Launchbury is more concerned with becoming a regular starter than the prospect of leading the side.

"It's honestly something I've never given too much thought to," said the 24-year-old, who missed last year's Six Nations with a serious neck injury but started two of England's four World Cup games under Stuart Lancaster.

Will Greenwood's verdict

"I'm relatively new both to rugby and to international rugby. I've been around the scene a couple of years now, and obviously I had a nasty injury last year.

"My real focus and attention, and all my energy, is going on trying to get back in the starting shirt. I felt like I did well to get back for the World Cup, but I probably didn't play quite as much as I was hoping to, so that's my major goal going forward."

Jones is due to start work this month once his visa problems are sorted, and Launchbury said: "It's really important for [Jones] to come in and assess exactly where he thinks we are.

"It's good to hear him say everyone starts from zero, and that's why it's really important for us players to focus on our clubs and try not to worry too much about what goes on here - just try to impress playing for our clubs."
