Danny Care will become England's most-capped scrum-half when they face Wales in the Six Nations, but he says he will only celebrate the record if they beat their bitter rivals on Saturday.

The 31-year-old will beat Matt Dawson's record of 77 appearances for England when he takes to the field at Twickenham, 10 years after he made his debut for his country in New Zealand.

He said: "It's a massive honour to overtake Matt, who was a hero of mine growing up. I loved the way he played the game, so to overtake him in caps is brilliant.

"He texted me last weekend to say well done when I equalled his record, but he said he'd save the soppy one for Saturday.

"It's a massive game any time you play Wales in the Six Nations. It's the one you get up for, you think about all season and it's coming this Saturday.

England welcome Wales to Twickenham for an eagerly-anticipated Six Nations encounter on Saturday

"My main motto throughout my career has been to enjoy every moment and what can't you enjoy about England v Wales at home in front of 82,000 when you're breaking the record as England's most capped scrum-half?

"It will be a special day for me and my family, but it won't count for much unless we get the win. Hopefully after the game I can celebrate then."

Care will start against Wales due to the injury Ben Youngs sustained against Italy on the opening weekend of the Six Nations that will keep him out of the tournament.

Forty-three of Care's 77 caps have come off the bench and he has only started six Tests for Eddie Jones since the Australian took charge of England in 2015.

However, Care believes he can continue to add to his tally, saying: "I've never looked too far ahead and never thought I'd reach this point.

"It's been brilliant and one hell of a journey and I want to get 78 more if I can because I love playing for England."
