In depth

Verdict

A fascinating spectacle as jump jockeys blitz the 5f down the Knavesmire. However, it's hardly a race for major stakes and BASHIBA is not a confident selection considering the unusual nature of the race. He's come nicely to the boil though and looked to score with something in hand at Nottingham this month. He should remain competitive off a new mark of 80. Paddy Power is worth a saver as he appeals as probably the best horse in the race but the concern is that he's better suited by 6f rather than this minimum trip, primarily because he requires hold-up tactics and right gaps need to fall at the right time. He'll give Daryl Jacob an interesting tactical challenge. Harome, Fumbo Jumbo, Midnight Malibu and Our Lord are all noted on the back of winning or competitive recent efforts.
