An impossible-looking handicap to kick-off the Ebor Festival. Dakota Gold bids for the hat-trick just four days after landing the Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon. He’s improving at a rate of knots but has a penalty to carry and a furlong less to cover on quicker ground. Veteran Caspian Prince could be interesting being 3lb lower than when landing a similar contest at Musselburgh last summer. An even faster surface would have suited but he may have a good draw near the stands’ rail. Paul Midgley, who had the winner in 2017, runs three with Oisin Murphy on board last year’s runner-up Final Venture, who is 4lb higher. Frankie partners Watchable, who won a valuable handicap at Epsom on Derby Day but is better over 6f. Stone Of Destiny beat several of these in the Shergar Cup Dash at Ascot and is only 2lb higher but JUSTANOTHERBOTTLE didn’t do a lot wrong in the Stewards’ Cup and it’s possible a fast-run 5f will suit him even better – he’s been dropped a pound since Goodwood. A Momentofmadness is 3lb lower than when he won the Portland at Doncaster last year but he’s disappointed this season.
