A race that has been kind to favourites of late should go to RAINBOW PEAK, a tremendously progressive gelding from the Michael Jarvis yard. The lightly-raced four-year-old is held in some regard and that's justified judging by his performances on the track, the pick of which a last-time-out Royal Ascot win off 107. That performance is all the more meritorious given that he'd have found the ground quick enough and the form is strong with the second filling that position in the John Smith's Cup and the sixth horse landing a strong Goodwood handicap. He deserves this step up in grade and can score with something in hand. Poet needs rain to fall if he's to have any hope of giving away a penalty and it'd be no surprise were Rio de La Plata to reverse the form of their meeting on soft ground at Pontefract, while Confront dead-heated on this card in 2009 but, despite being proven in the grade, efforts this year haven't been strong. Cesare scraped home on his return but the form has worked out and the nine-year-old would be a major factor on '09 form and Critical Moment deserves this step up in grade having won at Goodwood.
