Broome edged out SISKANY in the Dubai Gold Cup in March but it’s possible that the runner-up hit the front too soon that day and the positions could be reversed here. Quickthorn was only sixth that day but, unlike the first two, lacked a recent run and he beat the smart Coltrane out of sight when making all in the Lonsdale Stakes here last August when Tashkhan was a well-beaten fourth. The St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov had probably gone over the top when well beaten in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot subsequently and is expected to hold his own in cup races this year.
