Verdict

Roaring Lion is the one to beat having finished runner-up in last year’s Racing Post Trophy and fifth in the 2000 Guineas earlier this month. John Gosden’s grey should stay the trip, has the beating of Mildenberger and is preferred to stablemate Crossed Baton. The latter won the Listed Derby Trial at Epsom last month with the Ballydoyle pair James Cook and Zabriskie behind though both re-oppose today with significant improvement expected from the former. Godolphin’s Nordic Lights is unbeaten in novice company and we’ll know more about him after this while the same comment applies to WELLS FARHH GO. The latter signed off last season with a defeat of subsequent Greenham winner James Garfield in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes over 7f here in August and entries in the Derby and Queen’s Vase suggest Tim Easterby is confident in his colt’s ability to last home. White Mocha was still beaten a long way when runner-up in the Craven when in front of a below par Roaring Lion and Merlin Magic looks up against it.
