A competitive start to Timeform Charity Day at York with the locally-trained trio of Cat's Whiskers, Tedstale and Oldenway all having claims but a safer proposition looks to be Crow Wood and he gets the vote. James Given's gelding is in the form of his life at present having recorded his second success from three starts this term when making all to win over 10 furlongs at Haydock last time. Admittedly the son of Halling has a furlong less to travel today but that should not pose a problem and, as the track favours front-runners, he has solid claims. Cat's Whiskers and Tedstale both found just the one too good last time and are entitled to be thereabouts again but a bigger threat to the selection may come from Oldenway, who will be staying on better than most. Albuhera is well treated on his best but has been out of form.
