Billy Dane had dropped to rating that makes him eligible for this contest and from a low draw could go very well in an open contest. Trained by Richard Fahey, the selection was highly tried in competitive handicaps throughout the early part of last summer before the wet mid-summer put paid to any chances he had of picking up a decent prize. In three outings this season he has been far from disgraced on unfavourably easy surfaces. While he does have a tendency to hang and make life tough for his rider, he makes quite a bit of appeal. King Of Rhythm is up 2lb for a second placing behind Sir Duke who subsequently scored off a 6lb higher mark. He travels well of 10 furlongs so this drop back to a mile should not overly inconvenience him. The exposed Goodbye Mr Bond is another dropping back in trip and grade. Although he has a low draw, the quick nature of the mile here would be a concern as all he appears to do is plug on. Lord Theo has found one too good on his last two starts but remains on the same mark today. He is an obvious contender once again as is Celtic Step who has shown much improved form since a break on his last couple of outings. Billy One Punch faces a stiff task from his outside draw along with Tencender, who a case could be made for. His last outing is best forgotten as he simply could not handle the underfoot conditions. Billy Dane is taken to land this handicap.
