Bright Eagle is a consistent performer and should again be thereabouts but the key to the outcome of this race may be a handicap at Sandown earlier in the month won by One Off in which Anak Pekan finished second with Merrymaker in fourth place and, even on these revised terms, the Michael Jarvis-trained colt is taken to confirm his superiority over the Stoute horse. The selection has had his problems but has come back well recently with his Sandown second proceeded by another second to an in-form and well-handicapped rival Persephone Heights at Newmarket. Admittedly a 3lb rise since leaves him with more to do but the son of In The Wings is less exposed than most, particularly over this trip, and is taken to go one better here. Merrymaker has obvious claims on the revised terms but does not look a straight-forward ride. Robbie Can Can has slipped to an attractive mark and ran well when second to Celtic Star last time so is another to consider along with the lightly raced duo of Saphila and Haribini. However, it will take a good one to beat Anak Pekan, who is taken to defy top weight.
