A tough opener where a handful have chances. However, slender preference is given to Shamwari Fire, who is in good form and can get the better of Fulvio and Sylva Royal, while his old rival Margery Daw is respected but has something to find after finishing behind the selection at Brighton last week. Sylva Royal ran as well as could be expected in a better race at Lingfield at the start of the month and will appreciate the ease in grade. Her rider takes 5lb off with his claim and she will be hard to keep out of the frame if she runs up her best. Fulvio is also worth monitoring in the betting market. But he faces no easy task in carrying 10st-2lb, even in this company, and others may have his measure near the finish. Which brings us to Shamwari Fire, who has a good record when he is fresh and is expected to be a lot sharper after his blow-out on the south coast seven days ago.
