BACCARAT was third under a big weight in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon and filled the same position behind Windfast in a Listed race at Newmarket next time. That is much the best recent form and Charlie Appleby's seven-year-old is readily preferred to Godolphin's other runner Steady Pace, who is conceding 10lb less Cameron Noble's claim, and Outback Traveller. The latter has the same handicap mark as the selection but turned in a shocker last time at York, though probably found 5f too sharp there. Basil Berry has a mountain to climb on these terms.
