      Verdict

      A poor contest but DALAVAND could just prove good enough. Jamie Osborne's gelding hasn't run badly in a couple of Class 6 Brighton handicaps the last twice, handles the forecast quick ground and may have room for improvement after six starts. His latest run when fourth at Brighton suggested the step-up in trip will not be a concern. Coarse Cut also descends to this level for the first time and should make an impact with stamina assured for the Johnson Houghton yard that is ticking along sweetly at present. Duc de Seville, tailed off at Windsor last time on his first run back on the level after a period hurdling, would have claims if rediscovering the best of his Flat form but that's a big 'if' and Ocean Bentley is likelier shortlist material.
