Verdict

A trappy contest and it is difficult to split the three main contenders. Surprise Encounter, at his best on fast ground, would have been the selection had his yard been in better form and is passed over. Mauri Moon, giving weight away all round looks to be the one. She has it to do on the book but, she put up argueably her best performance to date when giving 19lb and a beating, to the useful if somewhat disappointing Shiny. Gateman is an interesting runner as he is a half-brother to one of his rivals here Surprise Encounter. He has been a little disappointing since coming back from America, but this trip should suit and it would be no surprise if he beat the mare on these terms.
