DESERTER, unexposed when scoring on just his fifth career start at Stratford, now finds himself at joint head of the weights. He always looked in control on that occasion and is arguably better than the 8l winning margin suggested. Further improvement seems assured in a contest where that may not be the case with the majority of his rivals and Warren Greatrex is always very particular with the placing of his small number of summer jumpers. Perennial is one of two other contenders who look likely to have scope for more progress and is respected along with Pattara, although the latter is likely to need this first run since November. However, the main threat should come from Beggar's Wishes, beaten favourite last time, but still open to delivering on maiden hurdle and bumper promise. Earls Fort is the each-way shout.
