In depth

Verdict

Plenty of runners to choose from here with a field of 20 set to face the starter including the in-form Old Nosey, recent Southwell second Ernest William and Jonjo O'Neill's reappearing Supreme Priority but the vote goes to Diamondalternative. Charlie Egerton's gelding has come back from a two-year absence, winning a maiden hurdle at Southwell in July and looks potentially well treated on his debut in handicap-company. Old Nosey is in the form of his life at present but is likely to find this tougher than recent races he has been involved in. While Ernest William showed improved form at Southwell, he was well held there and a bigger threat to the selection may come from Supreme Priority, who comes from a top stable and has the assistance of Tony McCoy. Ella Falls has run with credit on the level recently and could be interesting back over hurdles for her shrewd connections, while the consistent Commanche Hero is again entitled to be thereabouts. Parsons Pride belied odds of 66/1 when winning a novices' hurdle over course and distance last week and looks well treated back in a handicap, despite a 7lb penalty. He cannot be dismissed lightly but we just prefer Diamondalternative.
