In depth

Verdict

Royale Rag clearly has ability and should win races but this looks to be little more than a match between Pigeon Island and Wantage Road with preference for the latter of the pair. The selection has improved with each start and, with further improvement anticipated, Nicky Henderson's gelding is taken to open his account. Stagecoach Amber and Black Spot Bob have shown only a modicum of ability and a bigger threat is likely to come from the consistent Pigeon Island. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained gelding remains a maiden under both codes though and he may have to settle for minor honours here with preference for Wantage Road.
