Verdict

Warsaw Pact is preferred to Wise Owl and Valance. Sir Mark Prescott's charge disappointed at Newmarket on turf but he rattled up a hat-trick on the artificial surfaces earlier in the season and on official figures, he should be capable of taking this. Wise Owl has to give weight away to his rivals and is a much better proposition on the sand rather than the turf. He was not disgraced in the Shergar Cup but he appears much more at home on this surface. Former hurdler, Valance, ran well at Kempton and although he is somewhat temperamental in nature, he could be worth another chance back on the sand. Champagne Shadow has been in good form of late but faces stronger opposition. Cotton Eyed Joe seems to reserve his better form for Southwell and is yet to trouble the judge. Neutrino is upped in trip. Warsaw Pact is likely to have been aimed at that for some time and is the selection.
