chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, edged left and weakened inside final furlong
outpaced, ridden and headway halfway, one pace final furlong
with leaders, ridden over 3f out, weakened over 1f out, soon eased
led after 1f, ridden and headed over 1f out, soon weakened
chased leaders, ridden in every chance final furlong, not quicken towards finish
led 1f, chased leaders, ridden over 2f out, weakened over 1f out
held up, ridden and headway over 1f out, stayed on, not reach leaders
with leaders, ridden halfway, weakened when not much room over 2f out
towards rear, headway over 4f out, ridden to lead over 1f out, ran on
Today may well be the day for Xaloc Bay and Karl Burke's charge may be the solution to a tricky race after a confidence boosting effort at Southwell last time. The five-year-old is preferred over Waxwing, Chorus and Pips Song, who should be involved in the shake-up but have never been noted for their consistency. Xaloc Bay acts well on this surface and, although this is a much lower target than his connections initially had in mind for him after he showed plenty of promise earlier in his career, he still has a race of this nature well within him. It took him what seemed an eternity to run off a mark in the eighties after a promising two-year-old campaign. But he should not be too far away off a lowly mark of 58 today. Chorus will find this a tougher assignment than when she won a weak fillies handicap over course and distance last time, so Pips Song, who pops up in races like this every once in a while, is taken to give Xaloc Bay the most to do.
