Verdict
The feature race on the card can go to the progressive Modaffaa ahead of Greenwich Meantime, Blaze of Colour and Merrymaker to name but three. Modaffaa is a very interesting animal as connections rate him extremely highly indeed. Bought for 12,000gns at last year's December Sales, this half-brother to Alhaarth no less, made a winning start to his career in a Ludlow Bumper in October. However, they intend to keep him on the Flat in future, with the long-term plan being the Chester Cup and then maybe, if good enough, the Ormond Stakes. That is a long way off though, and more immediately, having gained a very cozy victory at Lingfield in November, he should run a big race here off a mark of 82. Greenwich Meantime is fully expected to turn the tables on Merrymaker for a narrow defeat over slightly further here in November, but but will find this on the short side against the selection. Blaze of Colour was well beaten in a Listed race in France on her final outing for Sir Michael Stoute, and it remains to be seen whether Paul Cole can place her to good effect on the all-weather. Modaffa has a big future though and it will be disappointing if he does not follow up.
