In depth

Verdict

Welcome Surprise represents last year’s winning yard but made little impression on his debut and the other Godolphin runner Yalata is preferred given he’s a half-brother to Group 1 winner Havana Grey. MISS VILLANELLE found a Godolphin newcomer too good at Goodwood on last month’s debut but would have finished closer to the winner with a clear run and Charlie Hills’ filly gets the vote with improvement expected. Homespin, Royal Council and Sun Power are other likely improvers having shown some ability on their respective debuts and any strong support in the betting for any of that trio could prove significant.
