A competitive contest with little seperating the leading contenders at the weights. Mumbling has not had much luck in running in either start this term but is fairly treated and has shaped as though retaining all of his ability. He appears to be running in to form and has a solid claim with conditions in his favour. Captain's Log won three times in similar company last term including first time out and has dropped to a favourable mark for his return while Tarboush ran well for a long way behind Lady Bear on his comeback but was then most disappointing next time. Red Rosie is one of the least exposed and is capable of further progress but has not ben seen in public since flopping at Ascot last July and has a low draw to contend with here so preference is for Bold Raider. Ian Balding's charge, twice a course winner, shaped encouragingly on his return earlier in the month and should now be ready to do himself justice.
