Victorian Bounty and Earlsmedic face no easy task at the top of the handicap in this six furlong event and a better bet looks to be ANNE OF KIEV, who gets the vote ahead of Sometsuke. Peter Makin's gelding was good value for his win at Bath last week but a 7lb penalty for that success makes this more difficult for the four-year-old and he may have to settle for minor honours. John Akehurst's Lodi is better than he showed at Brighton last time but he is hard to back with any confidence after that outing, while Rod Millman's Phantom Whisper has been well held in all three starts this term. The Pat Chammings-trained Rondeau has run to a consistent level of form and he should be thereabouts again racing off a 1lb lower mark than in his last three starts but a better bet looks to be Anne of Kiev. Jeremy Gask's mare had little luck in running at Doncaster last time when fourth of 18 behind Tubby Isaacs and she looks well worth another chance.
