Sossus Vlei finally came good after a string of placed efforts in novices' races when landing a poor handicap at Plumpton earlier this month and is liable to struggle off a 4lb higher mark today in a contest where Montys Island gets the vote over Porak. The last mentioned is entitled to come on for his recent reappearance at Lingfield but probably needs to if he is to get the better of Montys Island. The selection lost no caste in defeat behind Regal Bandit at Taunton earlier this month and although he has been raised 7lbs since then Charlie Mann's gelding is open to plenty of improvement after just seven career starts. Henrietta Knight's Lough Rynn has been well held on both starts this term, while Uncle Wallace has a long absence to overcome and is probably best watched this afternoon. The vote then goes to Montys Island in the hope that there is more to come from the seven-year-old.
