In depth

Verdict

Not the strongest of maidens and it should fall to Midshipman Easy, with Laabbij and Honeymooning put forward as the main dangers. Peter Harris's gelding showed plenty of promise on his only two-year-old start behind Asiatic in a decent maiden at Nottingham and showed that he had wintered well when third behind Vinando over course and distance last month. The opposition today doesn't appear too strong and this son of Irish River can gain his first success. Laabbij hails from the Marcus Tregoning stable and ran quite green when sixth behind stable companion Mudawin in a hot looking maiden at Newbury. He looks certain to improve and can take a hand in the finish. Incursion is quite exposed but put up some fine efforts last season and is another too keep on the right side. The best of the newcomers could be Honeymooning, a filly by Groom Dancer trained by Henry Cecil. The Warren Place maestro is doing well with his three-year-olds this campaign any market move should be heeded. Of the others Soviet Spirit is certain to improve for her debut outing, but Midshipman Easy holds the best form claims and is given our vote.
