In depth

Verdict

The shortlisted three are Prince Samos, Glad Big and Councellor, with Prince Samos getting the vote. A 79-rated winner on the Flat last April, Prince Samos warmed up for this with a promising Lingfield pipe-opener and looks primed for a good run today. Glad Big ended a frustrating run by winning at Kempton last time and, even from his revised mark, he can go well. Blue Trojan is now below a winning rating, although his recent efforts temper enthusiasm, while Councellor has been running well of late on the all-weather and could yet be interestingly-rated back on Turf. Blue Train is edging back towards his winning mark of last summer, First Show could well improve again on Turf this season, Sawwaah is more than capable from his current rating, Quasimodo has winning Irish form, Wujood is only a pound above his winning mark of last season, although he then became disappointing, and the handicapper might just have the edge on Wavertree Warrior and Bold Diktator. Once again, then, overall we will stick with Prince Samos.
